What type of smoke alarm should you rely on?  Do you know that there are differences in how they sense a fire?  Did you know that approximately 90% of homes in the U.S. have smoke alarms called ionization smoke alarms?  What is an ionization smoke alarm?  PLEASE watch this YouTube video from the Today Show on NBC.

So, the answer is photoelectric or a dual sensor?

This investigation has shed light on the fact that not all smoke alarms are the same. The problem is that many people never even think about a fire in their home and that is why they are caught off guard. Yes, photoelectric is the best option, but there are many differing qualities to those too. Plus, there are still flaming fires and dual sensors have bigger installation limitations due to higher rate of false alarms.

The "scientist" at the end of the video:

Interviewer: "We know of several cases where the smoke alarm, people say, just did not go off."

Consumer Product Safety Representative: "In those cases, the family needs to practice a fire escape plan... so that you can escape when the smoke alarm "EVENTUALLY" does go off."

WHAT????????????

THEY NEED TO GO OFF IN TIME TO ALERT YOU!  WHAT GOOD IS A FIRE DRILL IF YOU ARE SLEEPING?

PLEASE DON'T WAIT UNTIL ITS TOO LATE!
